GISCC Meeting

  • When: 1:30 PM - 3:00 PM

After many years of local investment and determination from the GIS Community, in 2015 the State of Georgia was the 45th state to achieve a Geographic Information Officer (GIO). Place matters in every industry, and everywhere. Achieving a GIO position was the result of a collaborative effort of GIS professionals in local governments, state governments, Regional Commissions, State Governments, and private industries in LiDAR, imagery, and GIS Providers. This assemblage understood the power and importance of place through Geographic Information Systems and pushed to secure a GIO for Georgia. Through deep economic cuts and loss of funding for the ahead of its time (before Open Data was cool), GIS Data Clearinghouse in 2009 the GIS Coordinating Committee continued to meet and coordinate GIS. Please join us for our monthly GA GIS Coordinating Meeting on 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM, Wednesday, April 19th 2017at the Department of Community Affairs building or remotely to learn from and speak with the Georgia State Geospatial Information Officer (GIO), Susan Miller.  She will give updates on current statewide initiatives including LiDAR and Imagery acquisition, statewide contract with Esri, and current legislation geared at helping the State better advocate for geospatial issues.
